On les examinera à la lumière des rapports de collaboration et de rivalité développés par les Genevois Saussure et Bourrit, dont les parcours et les objectifs divergent de manière flagrante. S’ils s’accordent pour représenter les mêmes paysages avec un enthousiasme voisin, leur manière d’approcher le réel indique que les chemins entre écrivains et savants vont bientôt se séparer.

They will be studied in the light of the collaboration and rivalry developed by the Genevans Saussure and Bourrit, whose routes and objectives diverge in obvious ways. If they are close in representing the same landscapes with similar enthusiasm, the way they deal with accounting for reality is a sign of the way scientists and literary types were to part ways.
