La dispersion de la gauche et l’absence d’un parti communiste italien unifié laissent les jeunes Romains de gauche dans le désarroi. L’arrivée au gouvernement en 2018 de l’extrême-droite rejoue les heures sombres de l’histoire italienne. Rome a toujours une histoire particulière avec le fascisme. Matteo Salvini incarne au gouvernement la haine de l’autre, jouant sur les sentiments contraires de fierté et d’infériorité de ceux qui se sentent abandonnés par les régions du Nord, par l’État, par l’Europe et volés par les étrangers.
