La conception lefebvrienne de moment et formant représente les contrastes du processus de formation qu’incarne la vie personnelle et sociale dans son devenir. La triplicité perçu-conçu-vécu constitue, en simultané, des moments (ou totalisations ouvertes) et des formants (ou processus qui participent) à la production de la forme spécifique de tout espace social, à toute échelle, en tout lieu et à toute époque. Sans ces concepts critiques, la théorie lefebvrienne de la production de l’espace serait incompréhensible.

The contrasts of the f orming process, as embodied by the personal social life in its becoming, are expressed by the Henry Lefebvre’s concept of moment and formant. Perceived-conceived-lived triplicity produces simultaneously moments (i.e. open acts of the whole being) and formants (i.e. participating processes) resulting to the production of the specific form of any social space, on any scale, in any place and at any time. Without theses essential concepts, the Lefebvrian theory of the space production would be unintelligible.
