Si la campagne mondiale contre le terrorisme offre à l’Algérie l’opportunité de s’affirmer comme un acteur majeur et par la même occasion reconnaître son rôle international, l’insertion du Sahel dans cette stratégie globale est, néanmoins, porteuse de nouvelles contraintes. Ainsi s’achemine-t-on vers une régionalisation de la lutte antiterroriste, prolongement d’une campagne mondiale aux contours définis par les États-Unis, mais imposant à l’Algérie un effort d’adaptation dont l’un des enjeux est d’imposer son rôle dans une région où les luttes d’influence vont en s’intensifiant.
