L’article commence par un aperçu historique, dont il ressort deux faits. Seul l’Occident a connu la séparation de l’unique rite baptismal en deux sacrements, baptême et confirmation. Et, depuis la première communion des enfants (1910), l’Eucharistie précède habituellement la confirmation, devenue un sacrement autonome, dont on cherche en tous sens la signification.La pointe de l’article vise à préférer s’appuyer, dans la pastorale des jeunes, sur l’Eucharistie qui se répète et peut donc accompagner un cheminement plutôt que sur la confirmation, sacrement d’un jour.

This article begins with a historical overview, which brings to light two important facts. It is only the West that has separated the single baptismal rite into two sacraments, baptism and confirmation. And, since Communion was extended to children (1910), the Eucharist generally precedes confirmation; the latter has become a sacrament in its own right, whose meaning is being sought in all quarters. The point of the article is that in youth ministry, the emphasis should be placed on the Eucharist, which is regularly repeated and can therefore be used to accompany a spiritual journey, rather than on confirmation, which is a one-off sacrament.
