Ce papier retrace la longue histoire d’une entreprise familiale portugaise, la Corticeira Amorim, depuis un petit atelier avec une poignée de travailleurs, à la fin du XIXè siècle, jusqu’à devenir une grande multinationale et un leader mondial de l’industrie de la transformation du liège, aujourd’hui. Dans cette trajectoire remarquable, de nombreux obstacles ont été surmontés et beaucoup d’avantages ont été explorés, qui font du succès de cette firme familiale une intéressante étude de cas. Un des facteurs les plus déterminants de ce succès fut la décision d’internationaliser, d’abord les flux commerciaux de ses produits, puis la production elle-même et la fourniture de la principale matière première, le liège. Le propos principal de ce papier est de présenter une analyse minutieuse et détaillée de ce mouvement d’ouverture de la Corticeira Amorim, principalement vers l’Espagne.

This paper tells the long story of a Portuguese family firm, Corticeira Amorim, since it was a small workshop with a handful of workers, in the remote nineteenth century, until it became a large multinational and world leader in the business of manufactured cork products, nowadays. In this remarkable trajectory, many obstacles have been overcome and many advantages were superiorly explored, which makes the success of this family firm an interesting case study. One of the most determinant factors of this success was the decision to internationalise, first the trade flows of its products and then the production itself and the supply of the main raw material, the cork. The main purpose of this paper is to present a careful and detailed analysis of this openness movement of Corticeira Amorim, mainly to Spain. Classification JEL : N80, N90, F23, L25.
