Le découpage continental et océanique par la géographie européenne s’est imposé au Monde, mais obéit à une logique bien peu naturelle. À rebours, l’historicisation de cette vision européenne du globe ne doit pas céder au mythe des origines. Même si elle est héritée de l’Antiquité gréco-romaine, il s’agit avant tout d’une création des temps modernes consécutive à la mondialisation européenne. Aujourd’hui, les implicites de cet héritage posent problème et appellent une métagéographie critique.
