Dans cet article, nous étudions l’impact de l’immigration indienne, lors de l’annexion de la Birmanie au Raj britannique, sur la formation du sentiment nationaliste birman. Nous nous intéressons à la présence des Indiens dans le secteur économique et administratif, mais surtout à la manière dont celle-ci vient effriter les relations entre les deux groupes colonisés. Nous finissons en abordant la séparation des deux territoires et l’impact de cette rupture sur la formation du sentiment nationaliste birman.

In this article, we study the impact of Indian immigration, during the annexation of Burma to the British Raj, on the formation of Burmese nationalist sentiment. We first look at the economic and administrative presence of Indians and how it undermines relations between the two colonized groups. We finish by approaching the separation of the two territories and the impact of this rupture for the Burmese nationalists.
