Peri-neural anesthesia of the distal limb are widely used in orthopedic equine medicine, for both diagnostic and surgical purposes. For them to be safe and effective, it is essential to observe certain rules of hygiene and safety, and to know the anatomical landmarks to refer to. Before concluding on the efficacy of one of these anaesthesia, it is necessary to respect the time of action of the anaesthetic, then to test the sensitivity of the targeted area (to be compared with the contralateral limb if necessary).

Les anesthésies périnerveuses du membre distal sont couramment utilisées en médecine équine orthopédique, qu’elles soient à visée diagnostique ou chirurgicale. Pour qu’elles soient efficaces et sans danger, il est essentiel de bien respecter certaines règles d’asepsie et de sécurité, et de connaître les repères anatomiques auxquels se référer. Avant de conclure sur l’efficacité d’une de ces anesthésies, il est nécessaire de respecter le délai d’action de l’anesthésique, puis de tester la sensibilité de la zone ciblée (à comparer avec le membre controlatéral au besoin).
