Pour un délégué syndical, « militer au quotidien » se joue sur de multiples fronts. C’est aussi à ce niveau opérationnel que se jouent les enjeux du « travail d’organisation » militant sur lequel porte particulièrement cet article. Il en rend compte à partir des résultats d’une vaste recherche-action conduite auprès d’une centaine de militants du plus grand syndicat belge. Après avoir précisé les options méthodologiques de l’enquête et quelques enjeux généraux du militantisme syndical de terrain, l’article développe successivement les tensions qui se manifestent aux trois niveaux identifiés de déploiement du travail d’organisation militant. Il met en évidence, dans ce cadre, l’impact des divergences stratégiques entre l’organisation et le terrain, l’enjeu fort que représente le développement d’une culture syndicale en organisation/entreprise ou encore les difficultés relatives à l’intégration des nouvelles recrues. La conclusion reprendra quelques enjeux valorisables du travail d’organisation militant.

Based on the results of an extensive qualitative research work conducted with one hundred activists belonging to the largest Belgian union, this article illustrate and analyze the “work organization” issues of militancy. For a union activist, in a “daily militancy”, they are played on three main fronts. After a brief presentation of the methodology and of some general issues of the daily militancy, the article develops successively some of the tensions that occur at those three levels : the organization/enterprise he belongs to, the relations with other local activists and the Union. It highlights, among other issues, how the divergent strategies between the union and the militant impact the daily militancy, the strong challenge posed by the development of a union culture in the organizations/companies or the issues posed by the integration of new recruits in union teams. We deduce, in conclusion, a few valuable issues of the work organization of militancy.
