À partir de l’expérience d’une clinique du travail, ce texte aborde un événement particulier : celui du symptôme qui advient, comme un coup de bec sur la vitre, dans la vie d’individus et d’institutions qu’il vient mettre en crise. Un symptôme clinique contient des potentialités transformatrices autant que des puissances de destruction. Nous cherchons à identifier les opérations nécessaires pour que le dispositif clinique opère comme un révélateur de l’événement symptomatique. À certaines conditions, que nous discutons à partir d’un cas clinique, le symptôme peut alors devenir un événement vital, mettant en crise un état d’apparente normalité pour provoquer un tournant dans la situation.

From the experience of a clinic of work, this article draws attention to a particular event : the symptom which appears, as a bird pecking on the window, in the life of individuals and institutions which are thus put in a state of crisis. A clinical symptom contains potentialities of transformation as well as power of destruction. We try to identify the operations needed for the clinical setting to operate as a revealing indicator of the symptomatic event. On specific conditions, which we discuss from a clinical case, the symptom can then become a vital event, putting a state of apparent normality into crisis, bringing a turning point into the situation.
