Les safe-spaces sont des lieux inclusifs où les étudiants américains font l’expérience d’un collectif sécurisant où vivre sa différence, où toute agression verbale serait bannie. Accusés d’infantiliser les esprits et d’affaiblir la liberté d’expression, ils sont au cœur des cultural wars. Ces demandes de protection montrent pourtant à quelles oppressions les minorités sont encore soumises. Dans ces espaces transitionnels, des identités individuelles et groupales s’affirment et rendent visibles leurs combats. De quelle histoire militante proviennent-ils et à quel type d’anxiété répondent-ils ? Formes de (re)prise de pouvoir devant l’hostilité vécue, ces espaces sont sources d’apaisement et transformation. Dans certaines psychothérapies, on se met aussi à l’abri du monde et de ses projections pour trouver sa parole et sa place.

Safe-spaces are inclusive groups where american students can live their diversity and experience a secure and collective place, where agressive speech is forbidden. They are accused of infantilizing the minds and weakening freedom of speech, and are at the core of the cultural wars. However, the call for protection shows how theses minorities are still the victims of various forms of oppression. In these transitional spaces, groups and individuals identities stand up, and bring their struggle into light. Which activism history are they coming from and what kind of anxiety are they facing? As features of power recapture in front of an experienced hostility, these spaces are a source of appeasement and transformation. Some psychotherapies bring a shelter from the world and its projections in order to find one’s own words and place.
