Starting from Edith Stein’s phenomenological reduction, the author examines the rational foundation of religious faith. Differently from Husserl, the phenomenological épokhê is a provisional posture in Stein. Mysticism, which implies the darkness of the night in the experience of God, constitutes the ultimate épokhê.
