L’enseignement de l’Évangile sur le mariage et la sexualité a été interprété dans un sens plutôt rigoriste et spiritualiste par la tradition patristique principale. Saint Irénée, auteur oublié pendant de nombreux siècles, renouvelle cette vision par une proposition eschatologique originale. Et elle nous aidera peut-être à réduire l’écart qui existe aujourd’hui entre le courant théologique dominant sur le mariage et les nouvelles orientations du Magistère.

The teaching of the Gospel on marriage and sexuality has been interpreted in rather rigorous and spiritualistic terms by the main patristic tradition. Saint Irenaeus, an author forgotten during many centuries, renews this vision with an original eschatological presentation. And it may help us to reduce the gap that exists today between the theological mainstream on marriage and the new orientations of the Magisterium.
