Le Service de Santé Mentale Ulysse situé à Bruxelles, constate que le contexte politique à l’égard des migrants se durcit de plus en plus en Belgique. Cet article envisage les effets de ce renforcement de la violence d’état sur le travail d’accompagnement thérapeutique spécifique mené à Ulysse. Il questionne la possibilité d’offrir un cadre thérapeutique permettant de reconstruire une identité subjective qui a été mise à mal par autrui, dans un contexte politique particulier, où la menace est réelle (déplacement, traque, expulsion) et la sécurité ne peut être garantie même dans le pays d’accueil. Il évoque également les conséquences observées sur les thérapeutes et la dynamique de l’équipe de se retrouver dans une position d’entre deux violences, celle émanant des récits traumatiques et celle exercée par le social.

Between two forms of violenceAs a Brussels-based mental health service for exiled people, Ulysse has been witness to an increasingly hostile political climate in Belgium towards migrants. This article will examine the effects of this form of State violence on our work in mental health counselling and psychological support. It calls into question the possibility of a therapeutic setting allowing for the reconstruction of subjective identity, for people who are faced with a real threat (displacement, the crackdown on illegal immigration, the risk of expulsion), in a context where their very security is not guaranteed by the host society. The article also delves into the consequences, for mental health workers and team dynamics, of being caught in between two forms of violence : that they bare witness to in the accounts of trauma, and that is exerted on their patients by the State.
