Kumari Mayawati, dalite (ou « intouchable ») dirige l’Uttar Pradesh et le parti BSP, et symbolise à ce titre l’émancipation de sa caste. Elle est une figure à la fois révérée pour son courage et critiquée pour sa mégalomanie, son autoritarisme, voire sa vénalité.
