En analysant le cas d’un marabout confronté à « l’effritement du “ndigël” électoral » lors des élections de 2000, cet article s’interroge sur la thèse d’une laïcisation du champ politique au Sénégal. Le refus des « ndigël » est le signe d’un enchevêtrement accru du religieux et du politique dans les imaginaires d’une partie de la jeunesse. L’intrusion de Modou Kara dans la compétition politique traduit à la fois une mutation des jeunes urbains en « citoyens- “taalibe” » et les recompositions internes à la confrérie mouride.

From « failed “ndigël” » to the Party of Truth : transformations in relations between the religious and political domains through the itinerary of Sheik Modou Kara (1999-2004)Through an analysis of the case of a marabout confronted with the « breakup of the electoral ndigël » during the 2000 elections, the author scrutinizes the thesis of the secularization of the political domain in Senegal. The ndigël’s noncompliance is indicative of an increasing overlap between religion and politics in the imaginary of many youths. Modou Kara’s entrance into political competition is a sign of both the transformation of urban youth into « citizen-talibe » and the internal reconfiguration of the Mouride brotherhood.
