Il a fallu les travaux de Michel Crozier à partir du début des années 1960 pour faire connaître dans les pays francophones ce nouveau courant de pensée qu'est la sociologie des organisations, devenue depuis discipline à part entière dans le champ sociologique. Rien de comparable n'a encore jusqu'à ce jour été fait à propos des associations qui sont notamment des structures éminemment représentatives du travail social.
