Resumé En tant que thérapeutes, nous sommes souvent amenés à devoir justifier le bien-fondé de l’indication ou non à une thérapie. Dans ce contexte, nous avons tenté de faire une synthèse très pratique entre les éléments obtenus dans la littérature francophone et notre propre expérience clinique concernant les indications et contre-indications de la thérapie d’orientation systémique. De la revue de la littérature, nous retiendrons trois critères essentiels, qui associés à notre propre expérience clinique, nous permettent d’utiliser avec souplesse et tact ces critères d’indication qui, pris comme tel, risquent toujours d’être appliqués trop mécaniquement. Ces trois points sont les suivants : le rôle du thérapeute en tant que « co-expert » aux côtés de la famille ; l’importance dans la thérapie du modèle de causalité circulaire ; le fait d’aborder avec les familles les risques encourus par le processus de changement qu’implique une thérapie.

Indications and against indications for systemic orientation’s therapyAs therapists, we are frequently required to justify the indication, or not for therapy. In this context, we have attempted to produce a practical summary between elements obtained in French literature, and our personnel clinical experience concerning the indications, or the against indications to systemic orientation’s therapy. Reviewing up to date literature, and our own clinical experience, allows us to insist upon three points which anable us to use with greater tact and flexibility the indications, which may otherwise be applied too systematically. The three points are as follows : the role played by the therapist as co-expert with the family; the importance during therapy as circular causality; the family should be aware of the risks due to the processus of change incured by therapy.
