Les djihadistes français recrutent essentiellement parmi les musulmans de seconde génération et les convertis, ayant tous vécu un retour brutal à la religion en dehors de toute institution islamique ou communauté musulmane concrète. Ils n’ont pas de profil socio-économique ou psychologique particulier mais expriment leur rejet de la société en adoptant le narratif offert par Al-Qaïda ou Daech : devenir des super-héros qui vengent la communauté musulmane globale, victime des Occidentaux. Mais ce ne sont pas des utopistes travaillant à la construction d’une société plus juste : ils sont tous fascinés par la mort et meurent presque tous.

The French jihadists recruit mainly among second generation Muslims or converts who have all experienced a brutal return to religion outside of any Islamic institution or really existing Muslim community. They do not have any particular socio-economic or psychological profile, but they express their rejection of society by adopting the narrative offered by Al-Qaeda or Daesh: they would become super-heroes who avenge the global Muslim community victimised by the West. Yet, they are not utopians working to construct a more just society: all are fascinated by death, and most of them actually die.
