La dernière période de l’enseignement de Lacan met à l’honneur la question du symptôme et réhabilite sa fonction dans la structuration du sujet en lui attribuant un rôle de nouage des dimensions R, S et I et de nomination du symbolique. Du coup, le symptôme ne se cantonne pas à une manifestation pathologique qu’il faudrait éradiquer, mais se voit transformé par le travail d’une cure en « sinthome » auquel le sujet peut s’identifier. Nous voici donc arrivés au terme de ce long parcours à travers l’œuvre de Freud puis de Lacan, où nous avons tenté de saisir l’évolution du concept de symptôme et ses enjeux dans la direction d’une cure psychanalytique.

The last teachings of Lacan give pride of place to the question of the symptom and restore its function in the structuration of the subject as the knotting of the three dimensions RSI and as a nomination of the Symbolic. Henceforth, the symptom is not limited to a pathological manifestation to be eliminated but is transformed during an analysis into a “sinthome” to which the subject can identify. We have now arrived at the end of this long journey, through the works first of Freud then of Lacan, where we have attempted to grasp how the concept of symptom has evolved and its implications for the direction of an analysis.
