Ces réflexions-ci reprennent, au-delà des conceptions de la première topique, les constatations de Freud sur l’alliance du Moi avec les instincts de mort afin de parvenir à la sublimation. Il s’agirait en fait du traitement que reçoit dans le narcissisme le «vide libidinal» des identifications primaires là où l’étranger, ou l’inconnu, se trouve aux fondements du Moi.

Could the «ailments of civilisation» and other «ethnic cleansing», so frequent in our century, be seen as failures in the process of sublimation? These reflexions go back, beyond the first topic, to Freud’s findings on the Ego’s alliance with the death instinct in order to achieve sublimation. It has in fact to do with how to treat the libidinal void of early identifications in narcissism, there where the Ego is rooted in the foreign or the unknown.
