La patiente sortait d’une grave dépression, un état qui reflétait l’ensemble du cours de sa vie. La toux apparaît comme un symptôme crucial du site analytique, d’une part sur le versant hystérique lié à un traumatisme sexuel et, d’autre part, elle porte l’expression de parties du self non-nées. C’est le contre-transfert en régrédience qui permet d’accueillir ces dernières en quête de trouver une forme à travers un cadre malléable et un objet suffisamment bon. La toux sépare objet et sujet en réédition d’un objet obstructif et les relie à la fois au travers de la frustration contenue. Une fantasmatique sado-masochique semble faire office de pont entre le bipôle somato-psychique. L’auteur fait la double hypothèse que ces aspects incréés du self passe logiquement par le corps et qu’ils tiennent d’une énergie inqualifiée. Les pulsions d’autoconservation pourraient servir le Moi inconscient générateur de croissance en puisant dans l’informe.

The author describes a clinical sequence where the cough constitutes an unexpected phenomenon, but not less central. The patient is recovering from a serious depression, a state that reflected the whole course of her life. The cough appears as a crucial symptom of the analytical site, on one hand on the hysteric side related to a sexual trauma and, on the other hand, it carries the expression of unborn parts of the Self. The counter-transference allows, through regredience, welcoming the latter searching for a form through a malleable frame and a good enough object. The cough both separates object and subject in republication of an obstructive object, and connects them through the contained frustration. A sado-masochistic fantasy seems to act as a bridge in-between the somato-psychic double polarity. The author makes the double hypothesis which these uncreated aspects of the Self cross logically by the body and which they hold of an unqualified energy. The drives of auto-preservation could serve the unconscious ego generative of growth by drawing from the formless.
