Les conflits franco-anglais des xiiie et xive siècles sont bien connus. Les négociations diplomatiques et les traités ont également été largement examinés sous différentes perspectives par la recherche internationale. Les liens financiers tissés en amont et en aval des conflits, ont cependant moins attiré l’attention. La présente étude montre quels investissements sociaux et financiers les rois de France ont réalisés depuis Philippe IV pour tisser un réseau étroit d’alliés, notamment à la frontière orientale du royaume, sur lequel il était possible de s’appuyer en cas de conflit.

The Franco-English conflicts of the 13th and 14th centuries are well known. Diplomatic negotiations and treaties have also been widely examined from different perspectives by historians. Less attention has been paid, however, to the financial links that were forged before and after the conflicts. This present study reveals the social and financial investment made by the kings of France from Philip IV in order to create a close network of allies, especially on the eastern border of the kingdom, who could be relied upon in times of conflict.
