Guerard Louf, painter and sculptor, originally from Utrecht, settled in Rouen in the second half of the 15th century. He overturned the pictorial and religious life there by creating the first fraternity incorporating artistic trades, under the label of the “Trépassés.” He arrived in Rouen at the end of his career, and his itinerary remains relatively obscure, leaving room for numerous hypotheses, such as his recent identification with the Master of the Cardinal de Bourbon. Archival sources shed light on his activity, revealing commerce in sculpted and painted altarpieces as well as several institutional commissions. At the head of a flourishing workshop, Guerard Louf or rather Gerard Loef and his brother Jacob are at the heart of a Utrecht movement, in vigor in Rouen, whose artistic manifestations are now in the course of identification.
