RésuméLa révolte des Pays-Bas a conduit la monarchie à affermir son autorité sur les provinces méridionales par un envoi massif et durable de troupes espagnoles. Les mémoires et les correspondances laissées par ces militaires et fonctionnaires permettent d’analyser un processus de construction des représentations, loin des clichés littéraires et des stéréotypes de la légende noire. À travers le regard espagnol sur les Flamands, il est question de comprendre comment le raisonnement par ethnotypes participe à un processus d’intelligibilité d’un monde différent.

Flanders and the Flemish in the Spanish Imaginary Lore of the xvith centuryThe revolt of the Low Countries led the monarch to assert his authority through a massive and lasting posting of Spanish troops. The memoirs and the mail left by these soldiers and officials allow to analyse a process of construction of the representations, far from the literary clichés and the stereotypes of the black legend. Through the Spaniards’ vision of the Flemish, the issue is understand how a way of thinking through ethnotypes is part of a process that leads to a better understanding of a different world.
