French society faces both economic crisis and deep social changes : financial insecurity, changing family situations and single parenthood, disruptions in life courses and work itineraries, aging and isolation… Under these conditions, whereas the French model of social housing is known as "generalist", it is progressively changing into a specific answer to the needs of the lower-income households, experiencing various difficulties (economic, social, medical…). These mutations, reinforced through reforms aiming at facilitate access to social housing for disadvantaged people, are questioning the inner workings of social housing, alongside the missions and skills of its practitionners.
