RésuméQue se passe-t-il quand l’identification à l’image corporelle se défait à l’endroit même du sexe du sujet? Que se passe-t-il quand c’est le sexe lui-même qui apparaît comme étranger à soi, tel qu’il peut se présenter dans certains parcours transsexuels? Le renversement étranger-familier, dès lors qu’il concerne le sexe questionne l’écart qui se dessine entre l’un et l’autre sexe, mais, dans un cadre plus général, l’étrangeté vient convoquer tout autant et plus radicalement la polarité animé-inanimé. Dans ce sens, on pourrait se demander si la différence des sexes est modifiée par l’inanimé? Deux figures se prêtent alors pour explorer la question de la permanence et de l’identification corporelle, celle du miroir et celle du cadavre. La mélancolie sera considérée comme un paradigme pour penser des configurations où le miroir se défait, et où se dessine une identification au cadavre.

What happens when the identification with the bodily image becomes undone at the very place where the sexual identity of a subject lies ? What happens when a subject’s own sexual organs are seen as foreign to them, as can be observed in the case of some transsexuals ? The foreign-familiar reversal, when it is seen in terms of sexual identity, is at the heart of the divide between the two sexes, but also, more generally, the notion of foreignness with one’s own sex calls into question in an even stronger fashion the dichotomy between the animate and the inanimate. In this light, we could wonder whether the difference between the two sexes is modified by the inanimate. Two images – that of the mirror and that of the corpse – help us explore the question of bodily permanence and identification further. Melancholy will be looked at as a paradigm for working through configurations when the mirror splits from side to side and in which bodily identification with a corpse appears.
