RésuméA travers l’analyse du film de R.W. Fassbinder Roulette chinoise, nous avons essayé d’élucider certains enjeux sociaux, familiaux et sexuels du handicap dans ses différents aspects : physique, psychique et émotionnel. Sans tomber dans le piège de la compassion ou dans l’idéalisation, le réalisateur fait du handicap visible la seule chance pour le sujet valide d’affronter sa propre vulnérabilité. Pas moins jeu de société que jeu de véridicité, la roulette chinoise, ouvre une nouvelle perspective à la compréhension des questions telles que l’accès à la sexualité des personnes en situation de handicap, l’homosexualité, la relation mère-fille, le crime et l’adultère.

An analysis of R.W. Fassbinder’s film Chinese Roulette allows us to shed light on some of the social, family and sexual stakes at play in having a handicap and this from several stances, be they physical, psychic or emotional. Fassbinder avoids the trap of being either over compassionate or too idealistic, but shows how a visible handicap is the only means for an able-bodied subject to confront their own vulnerability. Chinese roulette is shown then to be a way of playing with both the rules of society and those of truth and opens up new perspectives on our understanding of such questions as the sexual lives of handicapped people, homosexuality, the mother-daughter relationship, murder or adultery.
