Cet article propose d’étudier les caractéristiques et les déterminants des migrations des étudiants en Grèce, en prenant en considération les attributs individuels des étudiants et les spécificités des territoires d’origine et de destination. En Grèce, où l’entrée à l’enseignement supérieur se fait via un système national d’examens, le choix des études s’avère une étape importante pour la vie d’un jeune mais aussi pour sa famille, tant sur le plan affectif que sur le plan budgétaire. En s’appuyant sur une base de données originale, nous construisons un modèle qui étudie les vecteurs spatiaux origine-destination des étudiants et leurs déterminants. Les résultats montrent le poids des deux grandes aires métropolitaines, Athènes et Thessalonique, mais aussi le rôle primordial de la distance dans les choix de localisation et de mobilité des étudiants. This paper sets out to estimate the patterns and determinants of student migration from the domicile location to the location of the university. Given the prominent role of education for career enhancement, job opportunities and social status, migration for studies is an important decision with short and long run consequences for individuals, families and territories. By utilizing data, which make it possible to pinpoint the origin and destination of students, we construct a set of vectors connecting the students domicile location and the location of the university. Analysis reveals that there has been a clear spatial pattern of student mobility for studies. Prominent role is attributed to the two escalator cities of Athens and Thessaloniki, which are attracting students predominately from Southern and Northern Greece, respectively. In an attempt to modelling migration flows econometric analysis reveals that student mobility is determined by a variety of reasons among which distance is primary importance. Economic crisis has proved a detrimental factor for the mobility of students.Classification JEL: R23, R25, J24, I23, I25
