Comment aborder empiriquement l’usage d’Internet dans le cadre domestique sans surdéterminer le statut des catégories familiales ? Comment analyser la « familiarisation » d’Internet depuis l’étude rigoureuse de cours d’action ? Sur la base d’enregistrements vidéo d’usages ordinaires d’Internet à la maison, nous avons sélectionné des séquences spécifiques qui témoignent de l’adoption par les membres d’une orientation pratique vers leur appartenance au collectif familial. Leur étude montre comment les membres des situations observées se placent, depuis leurs activités liées à Internet, dans les différentes positions catégorielles du dispositif « famille ». Nous développons ainsi une approche située de catégorisation qui intègre également la dimension écologique et la dynamique conversationnelle des activités.

THE MATERIALIZATION OF INTERNET IN THE DOMESTIC SPHERE A situated approach to domestic life How can Internet use in the domestic sphere be analysed empirically without over-determining the status of family categories? How can “familiarization” with the Net be examined on the basis of rigorous study of courses of action? From video recordings of ordinary uses of Internet in the home, the authors have selected specific sequences attesting to individual practices oriented towards membership of the family collective. This study shows how, in the observed situations, through their Internet-related activities, family members place themselves in the different categorical positions of the “family” device. The authors have thus developed a situated approach to categorization, in which they incorporate the ecological dimension of the conversational dynamic of activities.
