Les États-Unis connaissent actuellement une campagne médiatique de grande ampleur visant à délégitimer la répression de la criminalité. L’idée se répand, jusqu’au plus haut niveau de l’État, que le système pénal américain serait raciste, absurdement draconien, et qu’il détruirait la communauté noire. Pourtant, aucune de ces idées ne résiste à une analyse sérieuse. Les États-Unis n’ont pas un problème d’incarcération, ils ont un problème de criminalité, et le noyau dur de cette criminalité provient des catégories inférieures de la population noire. C’est à cette réalité qu’il faudrait s’attaquer, et non au système pénal.

The United States are in the midst of the biggest delegitimation of law enforcement in recent memory. The idea that the american criminal-justice system is racist, insanely draconian and that it destroys black communities is now broadcasted daily, including at the highest level of the state. Yet, none of these ideas does withsand a serious scrutiny. America does not have an incarceration problem ; it has a crime problem, and the core of the criminal population comes from the black underclass. It is this unpleasant reality that must be adressed, instead of demonizing the police and the criminal-justice system.
