L’éclairage à l’embouchure de l’Odet, voie d’accès au port de Quimper, a été l’objet, au xixe siècle, d’aménagements successifs : remplacement d’un simple amer par deux feux, l’un dans les terres, l’autre en bordure du rivage (allumage en 1848) ; démolition du feu à terre et construction, à proximité d’un phare nettement plus important (allumé en 1887). À partir de documents d’archives et d’observations in situ sont présentées en sus des annotations architecturales, la provenance des matériaux et les modalités de leur mise en œuvre, ainsi que les péripéties de leur construction. Ceci offre un panorama des conditions de l’édification d’un bel ouvrage des Travaux publics sous la direction des ingénieurs du Service des Phares et Balises.

The lighting at the mouth of the Odet, the access route to the port of Quimper, was the subject of successive developments in the 19th century: replacement of a simple sea wall with two lights, one inland, the other on the shore (lit in 1848); demolition of the land-based light and construction, nearby, of a much larger lighthouse (lit in 1887). Using archival documents and in situ observations, in addition to architectural notes, the provenance of the materials and the way they were used, as well as the events surrounding their construction, are presented. This provides a panorama of the conditions under which a fine public works project was built under the direction of the engineers of the Lighthouse and Beacon Service.
