La crise financière a bouleversé non seulement l’ordre économique et politique, mais a aussi interpellé l’imaginaire de la pensée économique. Ce texte entend explorer cette mise en question et contribuer ainsi au renouvellement de l’imaginaire de la discipline, qui passe par un retour critique sur l’objet et la méthode de cette dernière. Une première section interroge la notion d’imaginaire économique et met en lumière ses trois composantes principales : l’anthropologie, la logique de l’évolution sociale et la rationalité. La deuxième section montre comment l’imaginaire anthropologique de l’ homo permutans, issu d’Adam Smith, a irradié la culture contemporaine et phagocyté l’action des acteurs sociaux et politiques de la fin du xxe siècle. Enfin, la troisième section esquisse trois pistes pour le renouvellement de l’imaginaire de la pensée économique : l’anthropologie de l’homme intégral, la relation comme mode d’interaction, et le bien commun à la place de l’intérêt général.

The financial crisis has not only shaken the economic and political order but has also challenged the imagination of economic thinking. This text seeks to investigate this challenge and to contribute to the renewal of the economic imaginary, which requires a critical reappraisal of the object and method of the discipline. A first section interrogates the notion of the economic imaginary and highlights its three principal components: anthropology, the logic of social evolution, and rationality. The second section shows how the anthropological imaginary of homo permutans derived from the thought of Adam Smith permeated contemporary culture and came to control the action of social and political actors of the late-twentieth century. Finally, the third section presents three resources for the renewal of the imaginary of economic thought: an anthropology of the whole person, relationships as a mode of interaction, and the common good in the place of the general interest.
