Ausgehend von einem klinischen Beispiel untersucht die Autorin die Charakterpathologie unter einem psychosomatischen Gesichtspunkt. Sie zeigt, wie die mangelhaften Mechanismen der Verinnerlichung und der Zurückhaltung von Vorstellungen bei dieser Pathologie günstig beeinflusst werden können. Die Hin-und Herbewegungen in der Behandlung und das Charakteristische der Autotherapie in der Charakterorganisation machen eine Stärkung des Ichs nötig. Ihre klinische und theoretische Reflexion führen die Autorin dazu, diese Charakterpathologie als eine Pathologie des Ichs zu betrachten.
