L’homme butte et s’interroge sans relâche sur cette part d’inconnue en lui, héritage de ses origines, d’une transmission et des objets de l’enfance jamais retrouvés. L’acte d’écrire est une tentative possible pour se délivrer de cet inconnu qui n’est plus pas dit mais transparaît de surcroît : plus l’objet a disparu, davantage il est présent, c’est le nommer qui le fait disparaître. Le sujet naît de la rencontre avec la langue, travail de Sisyphe auquel se confronte Georges Perec quand il écrit L’homme qui dort.

Humans ceaselessly question and struggle against an unknown part of themselves: the legacy of their origins, a transmission from the past, lost childhood objects. The act of writing is an attempt to free oneself from this unknown that is no longer spoken of but manifests itself nonetheless: the more an object is absent, the more it is present—it is the act of naming that makes it disappear. The subject is born of the encounter with language. Such is the Sisyphean task that Georges Perec confronted in writing A Man Asleep
