RésuméL’objet de cette contribution est de préciser les caractères universels de l’homme décrits par Adam Smith afin d’établir que la sphère économique est régie par des principes analogues à ceux ayant cours dans la sphère morale. L’enjeu est de suggérer que le Adam Smith Problem s’explique par la compréhension anachronique d’une œuvre et témoigne des problèmes engendrés par la partition des sciences sociales.

The point of this article is to define man’s universal character traits, as Adam Smith describes them in his work, in order to show that the Adam Smith Problem is in fact not grounded. It results more from an anachronistic understanding of his work, and bears witness to the issues raised by the separation of the social sciences branches.JEL classification – B12
