Longtemps l’exigence de justice a dominé la société rwandaise frappée par le génocide des Tutsis. Plus de vingt ans après, la question du pardon est incontournable. Insatisfaits par un pardon de réconciliation (imposé par les autorités) et un pardon miséricordieux (suggérés par des prêtres zélés), les plus courageux entreprennent ce qu’ils appellent le « voyage du pardon ». Ils veulent parler à leur bourreau à la recherche d’une vérité qui seule pourra balayer les cendres du deuil.

For a long time, the demand for justice has dominated a Rwandan society stricken by the genocide against the Tutsis. More than twenty years after, the question of forgiveness has become unavoidable. Dissatisfied with forgiveness for the sake of reconciliation (imposed by the authorities) and forgiveness on grounds of divine mercy (suggested by zealous priests), the bravest people have embarked on what they refer to as the “journey of forgiveness”. They want to talk to their torturers in a quest for the truth that is the only way to cast off the veil of mourning.
