Résumé L’article retrace la réception de la production intellectuelle des neurobiologistes contemporains et des artisans de la philosophie de l’esprit dans la psychiatrie française. Ce travail a été mené à partir de l’étude d’un groupe de neuropsychiatres français formés dans les années 1950 et marqués par l’œuvre du psychiatre Henri Ey (1900-1977). Sans contester l’importance et la nécessité d’une approche biologique des troubles mentaux, ils expriment une certaine interrogation face à l’émergence d’un nouveau réductionnisme qui serait à l’œuvre selon eux dans les débats autour de la conscience et des rapports entre cerveau et pensée. En dépit de la réorganisation des disciplines du vivant et de la psyché, ils pensent nécessaire de défendre une spécificité de la psychiatrie au nom d’une tradition clinique qui serait malmenée et s’interrogent sur l’avenir du dialogue intellectuel avec les sciences humaines. Dans une seconde partie l’article cherche à inscrire ces propos dans les débats de la psychiatrie française des années 1980 aux années 2000. Il semble se dessiner à ce niveau une volonté de pacification des antagonismes sans qu’il soit encore clair de savoir s’il s’agit d’une attitude diplomatique ou d’un accord sur la construction d’un nouveau paradigme autour d’un sujet désormais cérébral.

Neuroscience seen by « psychiatrists from below » in the years 2000 The article recounts how the intellectual production of contemporary neurobiologists and neurophilosophers was received within the French psychiatry. This work is based on the study of a group of French neuropsychiatrists founded in the 1950’s and influenced by the works of psychiatrist Henri Ey (1900-1977). Although the group members do not question the importance and necessity to approach mental diseases from a biological point of view, they are wary about the emergence of a new reductionism which, according to them, is at work in the debates on consciousness and the mindbody issue. In spite of the reorganisation and extension of the biological sciences in the field of psychiatry they think it is necessary to defend the specificity of psychiatry in the name of a long standing practice they feel is being given a rough handling. Also they wonder if the dialogue with the human sciences has any future. In its second part, the article seeks to make these questions fit in with the debates occurring in French psychiatry in the period 1980-2000. There seems to be a will to appease antagonisms, although it is not clear whether the purpose is purely diplomatic or if it is to speak in favour of the design of a new paradigm about a cerebral subject.
