David Diamant and the Centre de documentation auprès de l’Union des Juifs pour la résistance et l’entraide (UJRE), 1945-1956 Even as the David Diamant archives have often been used by researchers who have found within them a variety of documents on various themes and from different time periods– notably the world of Jewish immigrants in France, the Second World War and the Shoah– Diamant and his work have never been the subject of an in-depth study. Such a study is well merited given Diamant’s work as the director of the Centre de documentation auprès de l’Union des Juifs pour la Résistance et l’Entraide (UJRE), an organization close the French Communist party. A self-taught historian, David Diamant contributed in a multitude of ways (collecting archives, photos, and testimonies, producing brochures and exhibits, and publishing books) to the beginnings of public memory of the Shoah in France.
