The idea of lowering the voting age to 16 has certainly not been the subject of any political or social claim today. However it is more and more making headway. For example, Austria did it in 2007 and so did Scotland for the referendum of 2014. Before we can judge the pertinence of lowering the voting age, all the arguments for and against have to be known and discussed. This the article sets out to do. It ends by demonstrating how such a measure when accompanied by appropriate activity in school would make it possible to counter the lack of interest shown by many young people for politics.

La idea de bajar el derecho al voto a los 16 años no constituye en la actualidad una reivindicación política y social. Sin embargo, cada vez encuentra más adeptos. Austria, por ejemplo, lo ha hecho en el 2007. Escocia también para su referéndum del 2014. Antes de juzgar la pertinencia de tal reducción, todos los argumentos, favorables o no, deben ser conocidos y discutidos. Es lo que se propone este artículo, demostrando finalmente cómo tal medida, acompañada de las actividades pertinentes en las escuelas, permitiría contrarrestar el desinterés de numerosos jóvenes por la política.
