Dès la seconde moitié du xxe siècle, Henri Bissonnier propose un nouveau regard sur le handicap où le fondement de l’éducabilité est christologique, puisque les capacités du sujet sont reçues de la grâce, tout en prenant acte du caractère décisif du recours aux symboles et aux rites liturgiques, à la qualité des relations et à la médiation du corps pour accéder à la doctrine au moyen d’une rationalité non conceptuelle dont la validité est reconnue. Ainsi, sans renier son anthropologie préalable fondée sur la foi, Bissonnier formule à partir de sa pratique un modèle catéchétique autant kérygmatique qu’existentiel, appuyé sur des convictions anthropologiques inédites.

From the mid-20th century onwards, the writings of Henri Bissonnier offer an original perspective on disability : educability, he says, is Christological, the capacities of the subject being received from grace, while admitting the central importance of liturgy and symbol, the quality of relationships and the centrality of the body as mediating access to doctrine through a nonconceptual rationality. Without denying his background faith-oriented anthropology, Bissonnier formulates a catechetical model grounded in practice, kerygmatic as much as existential, built on original anthropological insights.
