Après avoir éclairé les raisons de la polysémie du concept de bien commun dans la science économique, cet essai se concentre sur le problème concernant le rapport entre bien commun et bien individuel, revenant dans ce but à la contribution fondamentale de Jacques Maritain. Il explique ensuite pourquoi, depuis un quart de siècle, on assiste à un vigoureux regain d’intérêt à l’égard du bien commun dans un domaine tel que le domaine économique. On explicitera plus spécifiquement la relation entre la catégorie de bien commun et la problématique des biens communs. L’essai se termine par l’indication de certaines pistes de recherche qui permettent de surmonter les apories non négligeables du discours économique actuel.

After clarifying the reasons of the polysemic nature of the concept of Common Good in economics, the paper focuses on the issue concerning the problematic relationship between common good and individual good. To this end, particular attention is given to the Social Teaching of the Church in the interpretation of Jacques Maritain. The paper proceeds explaining the reason why in the last quarter of a century, the category of common good is receiving new attention within the economic discourse. In particular, it is discussed the relationship between common good and commons. The paper concludes with the indication of some ways ahead to overcome the serious aporias of present-day economic discipline.
