Le rapport de la poésie à la transcendance se joue sur la rencontre d’une horizontalité et d’une verticalité, celle de l’être engagé dans le temps et l’espace du monde et celle d’un absolu situé hors du temps et du monde, au-delà du perceptible et de l’intelligible.La poésie, genre oblique de l’expression humaine qui procède par l’émanation mystérieuse de l’impression, du verbe analogique et du rythme est dans ce rapport naturel à l’absolu et à l’ineffable, en un mot, à ce qui ne se dit pas et ne se voit pas, dérangeante et insoumise. Son rapport au Verbe, à l’absolu à l’ineffable et à l’indicible en fait un des genres littéraires le plus apte à appréhender le divin, à travers toutes les religions et à exprimer face à lui notre inquiétude, nos doutes, comme notre désir d’union mystique.

The relationship between poetry and transcendence hinges on the convergence of a certain horizontality and verticality, the former that of a creature occupying the temporal and spatial, the latter that of an absolute being situated out of the time and the world, beyond the perceptible and the intelligible.Poetry, that oblique mode of human expression, proceeds by some mysterious, expressive emanation of verbal analogy and rhythm. It exists within a natural coincidence with the absolute and ineffable, in short, within what is unsaid and unseen, unsettling and unsubdued.The connection of poetry with the Word, that is, with the absolute, unutterable and inexpressible, makes it one of the literary genres most capable of apprehending the divine throughout all religions and of expressing our anxiety and doubts as well as our desire for mystical union, in our approach to the divine.
