En résonance avec la conférence proposée par Denis Hétier, cet exposé s’efforce de repérer dans quelle mesure l’art de l’icône en monde orthodoxe rejoint la compréhension rahnérienne de l’art comme « moment intrinsèque de la théologie ». Après avoir mis en avant ce qui fonde « l’autorité » de l’icône sur un plan théologique, nous soulignons ce en quoi la proposition rahnérienne déborde la compréhension orthodoxe de l’icône. Cette différence tient notamment à la place de la norme et des canons, si importants pour cette dernière. Mais peut-être faut-il moins opposer les deux conceptions que reconnaître en l’art de l’icône une forme artistique particulière, de nature plus proprement ecclésiale.

In resonance with the conference proposed by Denis Hétier, this presentation attempts to identify to which extent the art of the icon in the Orthodox world joins the Rahnerian understanding of art as “intrinsic moment of theology”. After having highlighted the basis of the “authority” of the icon on a theological level, we underline the way in which the Rahnerian proposal goes beyond the Orthodox understanding of the icon. This difference has to do in particular with the place of the norm and the canons, so important for the latter. However, it may be less necessary to oppose the two conceptions than to recognise in the art of the icon a particular artistic form, of a more properly ecclesial nature.
