La responsabilité des professionnels de l’action sociale et des cadres des établissements et services ne relève pas seulement du domaine juridique. Elle pose la question complexe de l’engagement et de l’implication des professionnels au quotidien, indissociables de leur mission et de son exercice. Engagement et implication inévitables et d’ailleurs nécessaires dont la nature ne peut être ramenée aux seules dimensions individuelles et personnelles. L’établissement ou le service doit pouvoir penser et mettre concrètement en place un cadre de fonctionnement collectif qui rende possible tout à la fois : l’accueil, l’écoute et le soin de ces « usagers » en souffrance, mission comportant le risque inhérent de destructivité des liens collectifs, et la reconnaissance et la protection de la professionnalité des acteurs concourant à cette mission.

The responsibility of social workers: implication and subjectivityThe responsibility of social workers and of the managers of welfare centers and services is not only defined by a legal framework. It also addresses a wider complex question of commitment and involvement of the professional on a daily basis, intricately associated with the carrying out of their mission. A commitment and involvement that are inevitable and indeed necessary, but the nature of which cannot solely be expressed on a personal or individual level. The welfare centre or service must be able to conceive and set up a system that will allow functions to be all embracing: the welcome, the receptiveness through listening and the treatment of the distressed, which entails in itself the inherent risk of destroying social links and the recognition and the protection of the professionalism of the actors, that contribute to this mission.
