Résumé L’objet spectaculaire qu’est le théâtre de Bussang a suscité l’intérêt de nombreux historiens du théâtre, mais a très peu été étudié du point de vue d’une histoire culturelle de la technique théâtrale. La reconstitution de la genèse de ce haut lieu culturel permet de réintégrer le rôle du spectateur et des objets techniques, dont le corps fait partie, dans la qualification théâtrale d’un événement. Elle contribue plus généralement à une meilleure compréhension de l’instrumentation de l’histoire comme moyen de qualification culturelle d’une action. Dans un contexte de décentralisation et de développement d’un marché de la culture locale, elle démontre l’intérêt d’une socio-anthropologie du spectacle pour mieux comprendre les enjeux de certains choix culturels contemporains.

The Bussang Theatre as performance event or system has inspired many theatre historians but not from the point of view of a cultural history of theatre technique. The reconstitution of the genesis of this cultural high spot enables the roles of the spectator and technical objects, including the body, to be included in the theatrical description of an event. It adds, in general, to a better understanding of the use of history as a means of an event’s cultural qualification. In a context of the decentralization and development of a local culture market, it attests to the interest of a sociological-anthropology of performance to understand better the stakes of certain contemporary cultural choices.
