Cet article présente les résultats d’une observation participante effectuée au sein de trois ateliers de créativité : l’un se déroulant auprès de personnes ayant des troubles de dépendance à l’alcool ; un autre auprès de personnes âgées ; et enfin un troisième organisé par un centre social à Genève. L’analyse de ces observations est comparée à des théories issues de la philosophie, de l’anthropologie et de la sociologie, soulignant le rôle central de l’art dans l’expérience humaine. Hans Georg Gadamer soutient notamment que les espaces de créativité offrent une expérience signifiante au travers de l’entremêlement du geste, de la pensée et des émotions, conduisant les participants à éprouver pleinement leur humanité. Selon l’auteur, la médiation artistique pratiquée à travers ces ateliers, de par l’ouverture qu’elle favorise en termes de sensibilité et de lecture symbolique, vient renforcer l’esprit démocratique et le vivre ensemble.

Creation workshops: an experience between aesthetic approach and othernessThis article presents the result of a participatory observation study of three workshops : one for people with alcohol dependency problems, for elderly people and one for the general public organized by a social center, créAteliers at Geneva. Analysis of these experiences is compared to philosophical, anthropological and sociological theories about the central role of art. Hans Georg Gadamer’s philosophy in particular shows how creative spaces offer a significant existential experience brining gesture, thought and emotions together enabling participants to enjoy a fuller experience of their own humanity. Thinkers such as Gadamer, Winnicott and Huizinga see human’s capacity for play as being an essential part of the definition of human life. The observations related by the author confirm the precepts of these authors. By the widening of horizens that it produces in terms of sensibility and symbolic understanding, artistic mediation also reinforces the spirit of democracy and of living together.
