Cet article rend compte de trajectoires de personnes, accueillies dans leur enfance dans des structures de la Protection de l’enfance et devenues travailleurs sociaux. L’exploration de ces parcours vise à comprendre les facteurs qui ont pu déclencher et développer ce choix professionnel, favoriser et permettre ce déplacement social. La parole et les mots de ces personnes évoquent la complexité dans laquelle elles se trouvent durant leur formation et aussi dans l’exercice de leur métier. En effet, il arrive que les enfants, les adolescents ou les adultes aient une histoire fort semblable à la leur, et dans ce cas, comment trouver la « bonne distance » entre leur propre histoire et leur fonction ? Ce sont d’ailleurs parfois des collègues eux-mêmes qui interrogent leur légitimité à occuper un poste et une fonction de travailleur social.

This article reports on the trajectories of people who were taken in as children in childcare facilities and became social workers. The exploration of these trajectories aims to understand the factors that may have triggered and developed this career choice and that promote and enable this social movement. The words of these people evoke the complexity in which they find themselves during their training and also in the exercise of their profession. Indeed, children, adolescents or adults they care for may have a history very similar to their own, and in this case how do they find the « right distance » between their own story and their function? They may also be questioned by colleagues about their legitimacy to occupy a position, and a social work function.
