À partir d’une enquête ethnographique par observation participante et entretiens dans une salle de boxe thaïlandaise d’une banlieue populaire, l’article étudie les modes de socialisation masculine de jeunes boxeurs. Plus précisément, il analyse les formes masculines de la socialisation pugilistique et la reconfiguration des rapports sociaux de sexe induite par l’entrée marginale de filles. Les boxeurs développent à la fois une masculinité « populaire », valorisant l’entre-soi masculin, et une masculinité « respectable », plus ouverte à la « mixité ». La participation d’une boxeuse performante renforce la tension entre ces formes de masculinités observées.

Based on an ethnographic study through participant observation and interviews in a Thai boxing gym in a working-class banlieue, this article focuses on the modes of masculine socialization of young boxers. We analyze the masculine forms of pugilistic socialization and the reconfiguration of gender relations induced by the marginal entry of girls in the Thai boxing gym. Boxers develop both a « working-class » and a « respectable » masculinity. The marginal entry of a powerful female boxer reinforces the tension between these observed forms of masculinities.
